Design Your Future Manchester

With my Art and Design class, I visited the Design Your Future in Manchester. This trip took place to give the students, including myself the opportunity to speak and interact with people from Universities that had a variety of courses which Art students can choose to take on in further education. I attended a workshop which informed me a lot about starting university and it really opened up my eyes to what I can achieve in my future. After looking at the University stands and talking to some of the students taking the same course that I wish to take, definitely made me 100% sure that I want to do Textiles and pursue it as a career. I even found out about Universities that I did not know had Textiles Design.Fortunately I have gone forward and applied to Herriot-Watt University which I discovered at the Design Your Future and it is now my first choice if I get accepted. If I would not have attended this event I would not haveknown about this amazing University and many other great opportunities. When I first decided that I wanted a career in Art specialising in Textile Design I had my doubts, for example I did not think it was something many people where interested about however having turned up to this event and speaking to people that have become very successful from doing art as a career, made me realise that we need new designers that are going to bring fresh ideas to the work industry and now knowing this makes me not have to question myself no longer. So many people where there, all with different passions for art and it made me realise this is what I want to do, I want to pursue a career specialising in something which I not only enjoy but thoroughly love.

Shawlands Project - Primary Research

For my second project I have done my primary research, looking at the books that I read as a child and books that my 6 year old sister reads. I have taken specific images of the books in her wardrobe and the ones that she loves to read at home usually at bedtime. I find that reading before bed expands your imagination especially for children resulting them to dreaming about wonderful things. From my own experiences I find that reading before bed makes it less likely to have nightmares as you are still thinking about the story you have read as you fall to sleep.

Also I have looked at my favourite childhood book "Bath Waters Hot" as I think Shirley Hughes writes wonderful poetic stories with beautiful illustrations to go with them. I have used Shirley Hughes  as one of my chosen artists to further my research.
