Procion Dyes

Procion dyes are dyes that react. These work best when applied on natural fibres for example: cotton, silk, wool, linen and viscose however they do not take to synthetic fibres.

Like devore printing, the print technician mixes the procion dyes. The first thing we had to do when using this process was making sure the fabrics we where using is made of natural fibres before we went ahead with dying them. Making sure the surface we was working on was completely clean, we placed our fabric down covering it in the procion dye with a paintbrush. I chose to use the die yellow MX4G. We then had to leave it to dry on the drying rack. Once it was set the fabric needed to be fixed. We did this by putting it under the heat press for 17 seconds at 180 degrees. After the dye is fixed into the fabric we then washed it as the chemical residue needs to be removed by washing them away.
